What happens during a full moon?

The Sun and Moon oppose each other in the sky, while the Earth resides in between the two planets. The juxtaposition and position of the planets creates a glowing effect on the Moon that makes it look brighter than ever  from the Earth’s perspective.

What does it represent?

The full moon represents the culmination of the 30 day lunar cycle. All of the projects that we’ve been working on for the past month reach an ending or hit a pivotal turning point. Change and growth has happened. Now is the time to reflect and enjoy the fruits of our labors.

When can I see October’s full Moon in Aries?

In North America, the full moon will be completely lit up at 10:56 AM EDT and 7:56 AM PDT on October 20th.

Here's where the Hunter’s Moon gets its nickname.

It’s the time of the year when people start to hunt game in order to prepare and stock up for winter. The full moon illuminates the sky and earth, making it easy for hunters to find their prey in the moonlight.

What does the full moon in Aries mean, astrologically speaking?

The confrontational Aries full moon creates a Cardinal T-Square with action-oriented Mars, which is in Libra,  and transformational Pluto, which is currently in Capricorn. A T-Square is a fraught astrological aspect that occurs when there is a planetary opposition (in this case it is the Aries moon and Mars in Libra) and two planetary squares (the Aries moon and Mars in Libra both square Pluto in Capricorn). Add in a harmonious aspect from Jupiter, who is in Aquarius, for an expansion of emotions. This combination of planets and astrological aspects will bring out deep seeded sentiments that have been pushed down for years. We won’t be able to suppress our emotions, which means that they’re coming out in the open. This isn’t a bad thing. There is a catharsis and personal growth that can help us evolve and change if we allow ourselves to.

What rituals do astrologers recommend trying during the full moon?

The astrological practice of Moon mapping ascribes rituals to each of the Moon's eight phases. Here are a few rituals to consider trying out during October 20's full Moon.

  • Set positive intentions. Try to manifest something new that will lift your spirits up and bring good vibes your way. Write down your hopes on a piece of paper, as the Moon glows above you. Let its energy fill you up and its light radiate around you. This lumnation can make your goals happen. All you have to do is believe.

  • Instead of letting old arguments and resentments flutter through your mind, send them on their way outside of your energetic orb. Release the drama that you’ve been holding onto. Breathe in and exhale out. Close your eyes. Imagine that you’re unraveling yourself from all the toxicity that’s been consuming your mind and heart. Slowly open your eyes and feel the weight lift off your shoulders.

  • This is an energetically charged lumnation, which means that you’ll need everyone (including yourself) to chill out. If there is a matter that’s been persisting for months (which has been creating nonstop drama or stress), write it down on a piece of paper (be as detail oriented as you can) and stick it in the back of your freezer. The purpose of this activity is to put the situation on ice to reduce the temperature and high energy. Once the paper cools down, you can deal with the situation in a calmer manner.

  • Being that the planetary ruler of Aries is Mars, passions and tempers will be intense. One way to deal with the energy is to have a good and healthy therapy scream. Let the rage out. Go to a private area inside or outside and scream. It’ll be the best release that your body, spirit, and mind can feel during this lumnation.

  • Cleanse your sacral chakra by dancing your heart out. Even if you’re not a good dancer, this activity will detox your sacral chakra (the area right below your belly button) that is considered the powerhouse of our energetic zones. Put on your favorite tunes and cut loose by opening up the hips and your sacral chakra.

  • Charge your black onyx and chameleon stones under the full moon. These crystals are associated with the zodiac sign Aries, which is why the full moon is a great time to heighten their potency. They’ll give you inspiration and motivation to move towards your dreams, without fear or hesitation.

The full Moon has a message for each zodiac sign.

Each sun sign will be affected by the full Moon on October 20 differently, according to astrologers. Meditate on one of the below mantras, depending on your sun sign, as part of your full Moon ritual.
